GUIDE TO THE MASTERS 2018 | Player by player

Updated: Apr 2, 2018

If you're trying to decide who to put your bets on for The Masters, I've heard that Tiger fella is decent. If for some ridiculous reason you want to back someone else, here's a little about each player in the field.

You might find some of the info very useful, some of it completely useless, and some of it not even remotely relevant to golfing ability.

JUSTIN THOMAS | He’s in ok form, I guess! Serious talent. Strong all round. He will win The Masters, it's just a matter of when.

TIGER WOODS | Give him the jacket now. JUST DO IT! He's looked like Tiger of old and a win here would confirm that THE GOAT IS BACK!

RORY MCILROY | Could win by 10, could miss the cut, could watch his swing all day long.

DUSTIN JOHNSON | Hits it miles, but hits a fade these days. Sure he can adapt, he is world number 1! Hopefully he's rented a bungalow this year, he missed last year's Masters after falling down the stairs. Silly.

JORDAN SPIETH | Likes Augusta, or at least 17 holes of it. Consistent. If he putts like he can, he’s tough to beat.

JUSTIN ROSE | 2nd place last year. Always up there. Not the best sunglasses.

JASON DAY | Takes his time, but he’s one of the best when he’s on form. Another one who’s great to watch. Blinks a lot.

BUBBA WATSON | I don’t know how he does it, but he does it! Third time lucky for Bubba?

JOHN RAHM | Swings it halfway back, hits it miles, it confuses me.

RICKIE FOWLER | It’s about time it was your turn Rickie. One of the coolest men out there, but the high top shoes are a no for me. Shouldn’t affect his chances.

PHIL MICKELSON | Can’t count him out, wears some awful trousers.

PAUL CASEY | He’s got over the line recently, so he could be dangerous.

SERGIO GARCIA | He’s done it before, floodgates could open.

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA | Wait, wait, wait…….SMASH!

TOMMY FLEETWOOD | World class player, not a world class haircut. Major champion in waiting.

ALEX NOREN | His first name alone gives him a great chance. Mega short game!

HENRIK STENSON | One of the best, if his putter works, Stenno must have a chance.

ADAM SCOTT | The ladies love him, I do a bit too if I’m honest. Not playing like we know he can, but he has some decent memories here.

THOMAS PIETERS | Looks like he’s going to punch you. Ball striker!

PATRICK REED | Confident, red on the last day, but he’s no TW. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s close.

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN | Cool, calm and smooth. He’s come close before, His swing is a joke, a delight to watch.

MARC LEISHMAN | Underrated, always contending, looks a bit like my mate Jamie.

MATT KUCHAR | Very smiley American, extremely smiley in fact, unbelievably smiley.

TYRELL HATTON | Opposite to Matt Kuchar.

PATRICK CANTLAY | He’s won on tour before, I think, that’s all I know..

XANDER SHAUFFELE | A dessert that they set on fire? Flambee, Souffle? No? Rookie of the year last season. Couple of top 10s this year too.

CHARL SCHWARTZEL | He likes farms, he loves Augusta. A proven champ who on his day, is up there with the very best.

BRIAN HARMAN | No left hander ever wins The Masters……oh wait.

MATT FITZPATRICK | The boy can putt, he hits a draw and he’s competed at the thick end of big events. He knows what it’s about. Not in his best run of form though. Looks about 12 years old.

TONY FINAU | He played in a Nike hoody a few weeks ago. A. HOODY!!! Bomber, and Augusta is for the bombers, they say, Zach Johnson disagrees.

DANIEL BERGER | I think he chews Tabacco, so no.

RAFA CABRERA BELLO | Cool as, wears sunglasses indoors, consistent, good bet.

KEVIN KISNER | Doesn’t like Bubba after the matchplay, but he’s another good outsider.

BRANDEN GRACE | Hits it a bit low, but he’s been up there in a few majors. Lowest ever round in a major, good credentials…..could be a dark horse.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU | Strange, but whatever works.

SHUBHANKAR SHARMA | Who knows, fearless this boy.

ZACH JOHNSON | Doesn’t hit it far enough to win here…….again.

CHARLEY HOFFMAN | Flat peak, green glove, starts well, cash out.

KIRADECH APHIBARNRAT | Great outsider, shown some very good form. Most improved player award for me (I also won that in my under 12s footy team).

CAMERON SMITH | Another quality Australian, had some great results this year.

KEVIN CHAPPELL | Always think he looks like DJ. Could be a good omen.

RYAN MOORE | He went to UNLV. How good would it be to go to college in Vegas (also looks a bit like Alan from the Hangover).

GARY WOODLAND | Bomber, Proved he can win.

HAOTONG LI | Smiles a lot, won this year, strong contender to be the first Chinese major winner.

JIMMY WALKER | Not in the best form, but he is a champion.

PAT PEREZ | He can go very low, but he can also go high. Any the wiser? Me neither.

ADAM HADWIN | PGA Tour Winner. He’s Canadian. Mike Weir is Canadian, not sure that’s relevant.

MARTIN KAYMAR | Why’s he so far down the list?

RUSSELL HENLEY | No great form this season, but he is a multiple winner, according to Google.

PATTON KIZZIRE | 2nd in the FedEx Cup standings, he must be good!

WEBB SIMPSON | Another major winner, probably not this one though.

BRENDAN STEELE | Had a great start to the season, not featured recently.

FRANCESCO MOLINARI | If his putting holds up…..

ROSS FISHER | Surprised he’s such big odds, great player, surprisingly grey hair.

JASON DUFNER | Everyone loves the Duff.

KYLE STANLEY | Solid player, could be good each way.

DYLAN FRITELLI | Great player, played well this season, good outside bet, often wears a skin regardless of the temperature.

BERND WIESBERGER | Top ball striker, not been at his finest though.

AUSTIN COOK | Won this year, but that was his only top 10.

DANNY WILLETT | He knows how to play here, it’s got to turn around for Danny.

SI WOO KIM | Players Champ, but not shown much form since.

BILLY HORSCHEL | Always colourful, golf hasn’t matched his outfits this year.

TED POTTER | Sounds like he’s 80 years old, but he’s not, and he won at Pebble Beach. Could perform some wizardry at Augusta, oh no wait, that’s Harry. Never mind.

WESLEY BRYAN | Great at trick shots, and he might need them at Augusta.

FRED COUPLES | Coolest man on the planet, I want to be like Freddy!

JHONATTAN VEGAS | Fair play, I wouldn’t mess with this fella, UNIT!!!!

SATOSHI KODAIRA | He’s top 50 in the world, I won’t pretend that I know more.

JOAQUIN NIEMANN | World number 1 amateur, some talent. Was commited to the University of South Florida, but didn’t do well on a language test so didn’t go, decided to turn pro, won the Latin American Amateur, delayed turning pro to play The Masters, fair play!

BERNHARD LANGER | Still ever present on Champions Tour, has been good here in recent

years too. German efficiency!

YUTA IKEDA | Not showing form this year.

ANGEL CABRERA | He really doesn’t give a sh*t how he plays. Love Angel!

HARRY ELLIS | The Amateur Champion, this is the reward.

DOUG GHIM | U.S Amateur runner up.

VIJAY SINGH | Once upon a time he’d be at the top of this list.

DOC REDMAN | U.S Amateur Champion. Not an actual doctor.

TREVOR IMMELMAN | He’s not played great golf over the past few years, but a former Masters champion. Fair play.

LIN YUXIN | Asia Pacific Amateur Champ, sorry, that’s all I have.

LARRY MIZE | He’s good at chipping at Augusta.

SANDY LYLE | Good out of fairway bunkers…..

IAN WOOSNAM | Small golfers are always the best.

MIKE WEIR | First left hander to win here, he’s won here, no more to be said.

MARK O'MEARA | You never know, he could roll back the years, nostalgia does funny things.

MATT PARZIALE | He’s a firefighter, and he’s going to light up Augusta….maybe.

JOSE MARIA OLAZABEL | Legend!
